Abstract

We created a workshop using a holistic service delivery model that incorporates both traditional job-search elements and non-traditional behavioral health interventions for helping the long-term unemployed (LTU) return to the workforce. Given the scale and challenges of the LTU population and the meager number of documented intervention programs, a pilot study was carried out with a small group of long term unemployed to determine the impact of a unique delivery model on participants’ job search success and return to the workforce. Building on existing cognitive theories, the interventional program targeted the diverse needs of the long-term job seeker. This paper describes the theories undergirding the program, the delivery model structure, details of the pilot study and workshop, and results of the findings. Lessons learned, recommendations for future workshops, and limitations are also discussed.
