Abstract

Several municipalities in developing economies, like South Africa, are currently battling to operate and maintain their service infrastructure in a cost-effective and sustainable manner. Thus, this study looked at factors affecting the management of water infrastructure operations and maintenance. A quantitative approach was adopted. The survey received 31% of the respondents' responses. Descriptive and exploratory factor analysis were adopted. Reliability test score of 0.869 indicates internal consistency. From the findings, corruption, limited budgets for maintenance and operations, political interference, communication and coordination between stakeholders and technical skills are the major challenges
