Abstract

Invention has produced much progress and wealth for humanity. Yet, unlike science, it has yet to be systematized, and remains largely the province of lonely “genius” inventors. While academia has allowed anyone to study to become a scientist, no established career path exists for inventors-to-be. This paper posits that creating ‘inventemia’, the equivalent of what academia is to science for invention, would produce great gains for humanity, and lays out a plan to do so.
