Abstract
This study explores simple geological models and the response of surface deformation induced during CO2 injection, which can provide useful insight into how the subsurface behaves geomechanically during the sequestration. For this purpose, we solve a series of numerical examples by varying the soil/rock properties and geometry such as elastic stiffness, stiffness anisotropy, underburden thickness, reservoir heterogeneity, reservoir tilting and add even faults in order to show how sensitive the surface displacement is to these changes and which parameters are the most significant. The sensitivity investigation in this study may provide good knowledges for developing inversion strategy for surface deformation to characterize the subsurface geomechanical behaviour during CO2 injection monitoring.
