Abstract
The project aims to study the flood event of 2021 in Thiruvalla Taluk, Pathanamthitta district, Kerala. The methodology follows the creation of the flood inundation map and future prediction. The amount of rainfall in Kerala increased significantly in October 2021. The findings of the assessment would aid in decision-making for disaster response and early recovery, as well as risk-informed planning. There is currently no mechanism in place to prevent floods, but proper preparation and prediction can save lives and reduce damage. To model and estimate the size of flood risk zones, an Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Geographic Information System (GIS) tools, primarily ArcGIS and QGIS analysis methodologies are used. The Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) is a mathematical technique for flood hazard modeling and decision assistance that uses the weight and rank of each flood factor to calculate the Flood Hazard Index (FHI) and produce a flood susceptibility map. A precise and trustworthy forecast of the flood's water level can increase public safety and lessen the financial losses brought on by the flood.
