Abstract
Intellectuals in the West have failed to give the public background information on international conflict situations. This failure allows governments to act in ways that fail to promote resolution of such conflicts. This failure can be illustrated by the war in Ukraine that began in 2022, and by the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine. Intellectuals need to question the histories that are accepted as true by governments and mass media. In regard both to Ukraine and to Israel/Palestine, Western governments are fashioning their approaches based on seriously defective understanding of the underlying facts.
