Abstract

What are the benefits and challenges of using artificial intelligence to promote student success, improve retention, streamline enrollment, and better manage resources in higher education? This article looks at AI applications, promise and perils, and ethical considerations, including the black box, invisible infrastructure, authority shifts, narrowly defined goals, data-dependent assessment, and the possibly divergent interests between students and institutions.
