Learning Objectives
• To become familiar with the range of national and international instruments designed to
protect privacy.
• To understand the ways in which the bureaucratic desire to maximize efficiency and the
commercial monetization of personal information have constrained human rights
protections for privacy.
• To understand current privacy issues around national security surveillance, the corporate
collection of data, and social media from a human rights context.
