« Avec la façon dont sont faits les gens, » écrivait Nietzsche en 1882 dans le Gai Savoir, « ce n’est que le nom des choses qui les leur rende visibles ». Quel nom pourrait-on donner à notre présent pour le rendre plus visible ? Le parc d’attraction de Disneyland ? Les pavillons de Dan Graham ? La société d’exposition ? Ou le camp de Guantánamo ? Et comment « nommer » pour engendrer un avenir meilleur ? Dans cette conférence, Bernard E. Harcourt interroge la façon dont on nomme le présent, pour éclairer la relation entre donner un nom et « utopier » notre avenir.
English Abstract:
'With the way people usually are', Nietzsche wrote in 1882, 'it takes a name to make something visible at all'. What name could we give to our present to make it more visible? The Disneyland amusement park? The crystal palace? The expository society? Or the detention camp at Guantánamo Bay? And how do we 'name' to produce a better future? In this lecture, Bernard E. Harcourt questions the way we name the present, in order to illuminate the relationship between naming and 'utopizing' our future.
