Abstract

Freedom of speech and expression is a cornerstone of every democracy. To make sure that any democratic process is functioning well, The Constitution has to ensure that each and every citizen gets the right to speak his or her mind and express their thoughts and ideas in the most complete way possible. In any functioning democracy, the freedom of speech and expression clears up windows for free discussion regarding various issues and social situations. The freedom of speech and expression plays a crucial role in constructive admission of public opinion on economic, political and social matters and by administering public views; the state can work towards national development. The freedom of speech under Article 19(1) (a) of the Indian Constitution talks about the right to express once views regarding any issue through any medium of their choice.
