Abstract

This article provides a non-academic’s perspective on the Greater Vancouver housing market and the federal government’s recent attempts to address housing affordability, including various tax measures contained in the 2022 budget. The author explains why macroeconomic factors are far more relevant than government policy in determining affordability in a region where the average cost of all types of housing exceeds $1.2 million.
