Abstract

"The Blueprint for an AI Bill of Rights: Making Automated Systems Work for the American People" is intended to protect the American public in the age of artificial intelligence. The non-binding document published by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy provides guidance to actors in both the public and private sector by offering five principles in support of developing practices that protect civil rights and democratic values. Although features of the Blueprint have been both praised and criticized, the document represents a step toward much-needed comprehensive federal privacy legislation that balances issues of civil liberties, equity, and access with maintaining the United States' competitiveness in the global market.
