Abstract

This paper offers five stages of teamwork. The premise is that no level of teamwork is necessarily better than another. What is most important is whether the level of teamwork meets the needs of the team members and the job the team needs to do. Sets of statements characteristic of the five levels help teams diagnose their level of teamwork. The paper also proposes and explains a definition of teamwork as a process of partnering with a distinct group of individuals to accomplish an objective meaningful to all and ends with a discussion of the increasing importance of teamwork in an ever more complex business environment.
