Abstract

In recent years, the popularity of smart cities has increased due to the provision of new solutions, but the basic role of citizens in smart cities has been less addressed. In the past, citizens had one-way participation, but today, a smart citizen must actively participate in urban affairs. One of the recent developments in the field of information technology has been emphasized the concept of responsive city. In the responsive city, the citizens are actively involved through activities that cause participation, such as open data, online platform, living lab, direct interaction. Also, the city is self-organized and uses digital capabilities. Therefore, the current research was carried out with the aim of developing the participation of citizens in the Responsive City with the approach of self-organization. Based on the literature review, the research model was designed. The questionnaire was distributed and analyzed among the citizens of Tehran City in order to assessing participation of citizens. In order to data analysis, regression test is used. According to the results obtained, open data, online platform and living lab do not affect citizens' participation and its effect depends on self-organization. Among the investigated variables, direct interaction has an effect on citizens' participation.
