Abstract

It is a history of the marginalized group of working class, the baganiyas, who were termed to various forms of atrocities and punishments at the hands of the British. The Harmutty Tea Estate is the first tea plantations in North Lakhimpur and was situated in the interior most part of the region during the Colonial period. The baganiyas were brought from the farthest and different districts of India to work in the plantations. the study discussed the life and conditions of the Baganiyas in the estate in particular and Assam in general.
