Abstract

This paper aims to explore the recent resurgence of coups in Africa and proposes solutions to prevent their recurrence and promote democratic stability on the continent. The paper examines the historical and political context of coups in Africa, analyzing the factors that have contributed to their occurrence, including weak democratic institutions, political instability, corruption, and external interference. It also discusses recent coups and their impact on the affected countries, highlighting the erosion of democratic gains and human rights violations. The paper proposes solutions to address the root causes of coups and promote democratic stability, including strengthening democratic institutions, promoting good governance, combating corruption, and enhancing regional and international cooperation. It further analyzes the role of the African Union in preventing coups and supporting democratic governance in Africa. The paper concludes that efforts to prevent coups and ensure democratic stability in Africa require a sustained and coordinated approach, with the involvement of national, regional, and international actors.
