Abstract
Wrought magnesium alloys often show significant tension-compression yield asymmetry, which can hardly be applied in large-scale industries. This work aimed to investigate the tension-compression yield asymmetry of ZK60 magnesium alloys during extrusion. ZK60 magnesium alloys were extruded at 473 K through the extrusion-shearing (ES) process. Microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of ZK60 magnesium alloys were investigated by optical microscopy (OM), X-ray diffractometry (XRD) and electron back-scattered diffraction (EBSD). The results showed that the grain size is refined to 1.7±0.35μm and the microstructure becomes more uniform. The tensile yield strength of ZK60 magnesium alloy at room temperature is 263.5±6.36 MPa, which is 35.5% higher than that of as-annealed. The tension-compression asymmetry of ZK60 magnesium alloys was significantly improved, which is mainly related to the reduction of the texture intensity of the basal plane.
