Pva-Al Sol Film Derived Superior Anti-Oxidation Layer on the Surface of Aisi304 Steel

Abstract

In this research, the poly vinyl alcohol (PVA) modified Al sol is coated on the AlSl304 stainless steel to resist the oxidation etching by espousing to the air at 900℃. Comparing with the substrate, the coated sample demonstrates the decreasing mass gain and the superior oxidation resistance. Meanwhile, the generated oxide layer demonstrates the dense, continuous and no flaking features, which suppresses the inward diffusion of the O atoms. In the virtue of the Al containing film, the beneficial anti-oxidation Cr2O3 and the Fe3O4 phase are derived and the general detrimental Fe rich hematite phase is avoided.
