Abstract

Generative artificial intelligence has the potential to revolutionize education by providing personalized and interactive learning experiences. However, there are concerns about the reliability and bias of generative artificial intelligence outputs, particularly in the context of education. This study investigates the use of ChatGPT in generating an undergraduate-level capstone project related to chemical engineering. The generated outline is compared with an existing published research paper to evaluate the accuracy and reliability of the outcomes generated from ChatGPT. The results suggest that ChatGPT has the potential to provide a suitable introduction, suggest experimental procedures and mathematical models, analyze experimental results, and provide additional suggestions for improvement. A general workflow is presented to illustrate the effective application of ChatGPT in traditional capstone projects. The study contributes to the growing body of research on the potential applications of artificial intelligence in education.
