Abstract

Research Question: Which country has the maximum number of top universities in the top hundred ranks based on Quacquarelli Symonds World Ranking for 2023? Methodology: The data set (Quacquarelli Symonds Limited, 2022) was retrieved from topuniversities.com, which presents the top universities in the world for the year 2023. The data was cleansed to give only the top 100 universities, along with their overall rating and country of origin. Simple calculations using MS Excel were done. Results and Discussion: This study found that the USA leads the ranking with the maximum number of universities in the top 100, as proved by various other studies done in this context (Kalhor & Nikravanshalmani, 2015; Sannikova et al.,2021). It also confirmed that Latin American countries had a minimal presence on this list, as proved by Aguillo et al. (2006) and Torres-Samuel et al. (2018). This study also discusses various reasons for the discrepancies in the dataset, which were previously discussed by Huang (2012) and Soh (2017). Significance: Researchers in similar fields can benefit from the updated data and study the reasons for these rankings with a more holistic approach.
