Abstract

Industry 4.0 has been an epoch-making point of discussion for academicians and industrialists in this arena due to its numerous advantages. The shipbuilding nations worldwide have already started preparing strategies to utilize this blessing. Being a shipbuilding nation, Bangladesh has exposure to building international standard ships. Therefore, to remain in global competition, some adjustments need to be made. In this research, the current situation of the shipbuilding industry in Bangladesh in terms of infrastructure capacity, technological investment, workforce, and management system has been assessed and the possible areas where Industrial Revolution 4.0 impacted the shipbuilding industry have been identified. Data from 16 domain experts have been used for the thematic analysis, and finally, the SWOT analysis is used to formulate the final result. The findings of this research show a clear picture of the prospects and challenges of adopting Industrial Revolution 4.0 for the shipbuilding industry in Bangladesh. Practical strategies to overcome these challenges to advance this industry in Bangladesh have been suggested.
