Abstract

The authors note the suggestions made to the Commission and in particular the WA Labor submission which looks to abolish the electorate of North West Central and substitute the electorate in its place.

They suggest the problem facing the Commissioners as to the distribution of 59 electorates across the State of Western Australia wherein the urban population of WA has increased disproportionately to the rural/regional population from 2005 to 2023 be addressed by increasing the number of electorates from 59 to 61 rather than removing representatives from the regions to increase the representation in the Perth Metropolitan Area.
