Abstract

In this brief tribute essay, I trace twin developments in international arbitration over the years: its evolution into a fully mature legal dispute resolution regime and the increasing focus on the professionalism and professional conduct of its participants. These two developments are interrelated, but also I believe at least partially attributable to the existence of the School of International Arbitration (SIA) that Professor Julian Lew founded.

For these reasons, these topics are appropriate to honor Professor Lew in his Libor Amicorum.

Keywords: international arbitration, arbitrators, integrity, ethics, impartiality
