Supporting Innovative Start-Up and Growing Businesses: Equity Finance Provision through the Pandemic: Interim Report

Abstract

This report tracks venture capital and private equity investment activities (equity finance) that have funded and supported innovative and growing business in the UK over the past decade (2011-2022). The latter period, of course, includes the pandemic and perhaps the largest ever collapse in UK economic activity. Analysing the demand and supply of venture capital finance, we estimate the 'equity gaps' by region, venture stage and industry sector. The regional equity gap estimates are compared to the pre-pandemic estimates.
