Abstract
X-ray induced photodynamic therapy (X-PDT) has been applied as an effective strategy against cancer. In order to obtain a novel nanoscintillator for deeper tissue penetration in X-PDT, A-Lu2SiO5:Ce3+,Sm3+@SiO2 core-shell nanospheres were prepared through co-precipitation following by Stober method in this work. The emission and excitation spectra of the A-Lu2SiO5:Ce3+,Sm3+@SiO2 core-shell nanospheres were measured, and the energy transfer (ET) from Ce3+ to Sm3+ was investigated using the I-H model, revealing that the dominant mechanism of ET in the sample Lu2SiO5:Ce3+,Sm3+@SiO2 nanospheres would be electric dipole-dipole interaction. Specially, X-ray excited luminescence spectra were determined and it was concluded that the as-prepared A- Lu2SiO5:Ce3+,Sm3+@SiO2 core-shell nanospheres possess a relatively high light-yield performance and have potential application for deeper tissue cancer treatment as nano-scintillator material.
