Abstract

A combination of land-use changes and climate change is causing greater precipitation runoff, causing flooding events to occur more often and for longer periods. Researchers have examined how flooding affects soil, and they've found novel ways that short-term ponding conditions might impact soil aggregation and the chemistry of the soil-water system. The amount of water in soil directly affects microbial and inorganic processes that change the soil's redox potential, alkalinity, acidity, and salinity. This paper focuses on the impact of floods on soil, how it affects soil aggregation, the chemistry of the soil-water system, the fertility of the soil, the mobility of Potentially Toxic Elements in flooded soil, etc.

Keywords: redox potential, Potentially Toxic Elements (PTEs)
