Abstract
This academic research, conducted from an engineering perspective, focuses on the state of road and bridge maintenance in the Zamboanga Peninsula Region of the Philippines. The study aims to evaluate the current practices and challenges associated with maintenance in this region. Empirical data obtained from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and other relevant government agencies are utilized to assess the situation. The analysis of the data reveals significant deficiencies in road and bridge maintenance within the Zamboanga Peninsula Region. These deficiencies primarily stem from insufficient funding, a lack of skilled personnel, and inefficient maintenance strategies. The research underscores the adverse consequences of inadequate maintenance, such as heightened traffic congestion, increased accidents, and disruptions to economic activities. Based on the findings, this research proposes several recommendations to improve road and bridge maintenance in the Zamboanga Peninsula Region. These recommendations include allocating a greater budget for maintenance activities, implementing capacity building programs for maintenance personnel, and adopting preventive maintenance strategies. The study emphasizes the critical role of effective maintenance practices in ensuring the long-term functionality and durability of transportation infrastructure, ultimately contributing to regional economic development and societal well-being.
