Abstract
This academic research manuscript examines the research-teaching nexus in three State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) located in Zamboanga City, Philippines. Through in-depth case studies, this study investigates the integration of research and teaching in these institutions, aiming to uncover the factors that facilitate or hinder this nexus. The research was conducted using a qualitative approach, utilizing interviews, document analysis, and observation to gather data. The findings reveal that while there is recognition of the importance of research and teaching integration, the implementation varies across the SUCs. Key facilitating factors include the presence of research-oriented faculty members, institutional support, and a conducive research environment. Challenges to the research-teaching nexus include limited research funding, heavy teaching loads, and a lack of research-focused training for faculty members. Based on the findings, this manuscript proposes five recommendations to strengthen the research-teaching nexus in SUCs. These recommendations include developing research capacity building programs, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, promoting research-embedded curriculum, establishing research incentives and recognition, and strengthening research dissemination and engagement.
