Abstract

Bifunctional molecular switch with bifunctional characteristics is more suitable for miniaturization of molecular device and can significantly improve its energy efficiency. For novel designed torch-like nonlinear optical (NLO) and electrochromic bifunctional molecular switch, it is exhibited that, from superalkali metal salt Liδ+(HCN)4Liδ+ to superalkali-alkalide ion pair of Liδ+(HCN)4Liδ-, the increases in static and dynamic first hyperpolarizabilities constitute a 1~2 orders of magnitude, and coloration changes from light-brown to blue. Then, the former is an extinguishing torch (off form) while the latter is a lighting torch (on form) for the NLO and electrochromic bifunctional molecular switch. Similar behaviors occur for Na(HCN)4Li and K(HCN)4Li.
