Abstract
Today, the decentralized Internet, commonly known as Web3, has emerged as a ubiquitous paradigm with the potential to revolutionize online communication, organizational structures, and business practices. The transformative potential of the Internet's evolution is primarily manifested through blockchain technology-based applications. Our initial investigation encompasses an exploration of fungible tokens, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs), smart contracts, and ultimately delves into the realm of metaverses. Additionally, we delve into the concepts of metacorporations, metacities, and the novel discipline of metamanagement. Utilizing a meticulous analysis of the Web of Science database, we examine study clusters within the emergent field of metaverse. Our analysis reveals a prevalent contribution from computer engineering researchers, indicating the necessity for increased involvement from scholars specializing in management and entrepreneurship. Consequently, employing co-occurrence analysis, we probe into subjects such as the factors influencing the metaverse, new metaverse applications, challenges and limitations surrounding metaverse implementation, the convergence of virtual reality and avatars, and the technological components of metaverse and its potential in educational contexts. Furthermore, we introduce the concept of "meta-concepts" to provide a comprehensive summary of blockchain-related research endeavors.
