Abstract

To improve the battery capacity and cycling stability, calender process of electrode is applied to obtain smaller electrode thickness and higher packing density. Meanwhile, the electrochemical performance of compacted electrodes is greatly affected by the mechanical and electrical properties. A universal measurement is presented to study the pressure effect on mechanical and electrochemical properties of lithium cobalt oxide powder electrodes. Moreover, a discrete element method is used to simulate the evolution process of mechanical properties during compaction. This work provides guidance to investigate the mechanical and electrochemical properties of analogous energy materials.
