Abstract

This Chapter delves into the concept of interoperability within the European Union’s (EU) public services and Member States. It examines the seamless exchange of information and services across borders, emphasising the transformative potential of the EU’s interoperability policy. From tracing the historical evolution of this policy to analysing the European Commission’s Interoperable Europe Act Regulation Proposal, the Chapter explores milestones, driving forces, and impacts on cross-border cooperation. It concludes by evaluating progress, challenges, and opportunities in achieving effective EU-wide interoperability and presenting recommendations for a cohesive and interconnected European landscape.
