Abstract

This article introduces an accurate and computationally efficient SN method for solving multigroup neutron transport equations in slab geometry. Leveraging the use of analytical solutions for constant regions, the method has inherent high accuracy, which is validated through criticality calculations. Strong agreement with Monte Carlo benchmarks in terms of keff and eigenfunction comparisons has been achieved. Additionally, fixed source calculations reveal substantial computational efficiency gains when compared to traditional sweeping-based finite difference SN approaches. With the method’s intrinsic precision, it is capable of generating benchmarks for other complex methods currently under development. The enhanced efficiency makes the method a promising candidate as an efficient axial solver for 2D-1D schemes in 3D neutron transport simulations.
