Abstract

The high-temperature oxidation behaviors of a series of refractory high entropy alloys TaCrTiW and TaCrTiZrW alloy coatings at 1073 K in air were studied. A complex protective oxide layer consisting of Cr2O3, TiO2, and CrTaO4 oxides was generated on the alloys surface. Among the TaCrTiW alloy coatings, the presence of TiO2 inhibited the generation of unfavorable oxides and promoted the generation of CrTaO4. The Ta41.7Cr50.3Ti4.5Zr1.6W1.9 exhibit excellent oxidation resistance. The addition of Zr not only accelerated the initial oxide formation, but also promoted the rapid formation of Cr2O3.
