Abstract

Describes what infrastructure in a capital markets firm does and why it needs to do it. Chapter 1 describes the type of trades, trading strategies and related financial products that exist. Chapter 2 contains an explanation of who trades and why. Chapter 3 explains what the infrastructure needs to do with those trades, in order for a firm to make money, manage risk and comply with the law. The section concludes with a description of the “typical” infrastructure. What amounts to “typical” will seem obvious to those that have worked in two or more firms but may not be so obvious to those who works in regulation or consultancy, or perhaps have only had experience of one firm.
