Abstract

English Abstract: The study "In Good Company" provides representative findings on friendships throughout Switzerland for the first time. It examines the diversity, significance, characteristics and peculiarities of this form of relationship. Can we also speak of a "friendship recession" in this country? What are the significance, functions and characteristics of friendships in Switzerland?

Large Swiss Friendship Study In the first large-scale Swiss friendship study, friendships in Switzerland were examined using three methodological approaches: qualitative interviews in focus groups, a quantitative survey with 3,000 people from German, Italian and French-speaking Switzerland, and an intervention study in which participants were given the task of contacting someone "from the past".

The study covers the following topics:

What do friendships look like in Switzerland?
How do friendships differ in the different phases of life?
How do friendships begin? How do they end?
Why are friendships important?
What can be done to promote friendships?
