Abstract
This paper presents a novel device, the vibration suppression and energy harvesting device (VSEHD), based on the principle of dynamic vibration absorber, to suppress vortex-induced vibration of riser and harvest energy from vibration. The vibration suppression and energy harvesting effects of eight types of VSEHD, including vertical clamping, horizontal clamping, and varying S=3D, 5D, 7D, 9D (where S represents the clamping spacing of the energy harvesting device and D represents the riser diameter), were experimentally investigated. The results demonstrate that this new type device exhibits remarkable effectiveness in both vibration suppression and energy harvesting, particularly within the range of 13.89<[[EQUATION]]≤15.28. Comparatively, the vertical clamping VSEHD (V-VSEHD) shows superior vibration suppression performance over the horizontal clamping VSEHD (H-VSEHD), while its individual energy harvesting capability is weaker than H-VSEHD. Moreover, the clamping spacing of the energy harvesting device plays a crucial role in determining its overall performance for both vibration suppression and energy harvesting effects. Specifically, when S=3D or 5D, prominent energy harvesting effect is observed; whereas when S=7D or 9D, significant vibration suppression effect is achieved. Considering both aspects comprehensively, V-VSEHD with S=5D demonstrates optimal performance.
