Abstract

This study investigates traditional water resources in Southeast Mediterranean and Middle Eastern countries, focusing on water shortage, pollution, and governance. Strengthening national water policy and promoting the safe reuse of reclaimed water is crucial. Conventional water resources in Southeast Mediterranean and Middle Eastern countries are critical to the region's socioeconomic development. This study tackles the complexity, ambiguities, and information gaps around solutions for dealing with the Climate Crisis and extreme weather events using conventional water supplies. These resources include rivers, lakes, reservoirs, and groundwater supplies vital to agriculture, industry, and home use. Climate change, population increase, and conflicting demands from various industries all impact water resource availability and management in this region. The process includes undertaking comprehensive scoping study literature selected from a large range of international scientific studies and reports. The findings underline the importance of conventional water resources in these areas, particularly for agricultural, industrial, and home uses. Water supplies vary by country, with some experiencing water scarcity. This study investigates the state of conventional water resources in the Southeast Mediterranean and Middle Eastern countries, focusing on water scarcity, pollution, and governance, and provides useful insights into these resources.
