English Abstract: During the Second Cholera Pandemic, Rabbi Akiva Eger was a paragon of leadership during a pandemic. Serving as the chief rabbi of the Jewish community of Posen in the Kingdom of Prussia, Rabbi Akiva Eger fought the disease with different tools: legislation to regulate religious life, raising funds to support the ill, and preparing mystical amulets to ward off disease. The King of Prussia, Friedrich Wilhelm III penned a letter of appreciation commending the rabbi of Posen for his activities in these trying times.
