Abstract

In this paper, I study the effects of the financial sanctions imposed by the United States on Thailand's military government following the 2014 military coup on Thailand’s exports. Using the Synthetic Control Method, I construct a hypothetical scenario representing Thailand without the imposition of these sanctions. The empirical findings reveal no statistically significant impact on Thailand's overall exports. However, a detailed analysis uncovers heterogeneous effects across Thailand's main exported products to the US, indicating that while the general export levels remain unaffected, specific industries experience varying degrees of disruption due to the sanctions.
