Abstract

This paper improved the bottom microchannel structure of the manifold microchannel heat sink (MMCHS) by adding pin fins at the bottom. The influences of square and circular pin fins on the flow and heat transfer characteristics of MMCHS were studied using numerical methods. The results showed that adding pin fins can effectively increase the overall performance of MMCHS. Square and circular pin fins can increase the PEC value of MMCHS by up to 15.9% and 11.7%, respectively. The pressure drop of circular pin fins decreased by 18.4%, but the heat resistance increased by up to 24.1% at high flow rates. Additionally, at low flow rates, square pin fins reduced the pressure drop by 13.4% while maintaining the same heat dissipation performance, showing the best overall performance.
