The challenges of IoT data processing and real-time communication have been addressed by the emerging paradigm of edge computing. The anticipated contributions span domains, promising real-time processing, reduced latency, and scalability enhancements. Methodologies encompass various approaches from hardware advancements to security protocols, aiming to fortify edge environments. The investigation anticipates evolving trends, market shifts, and emerging user demands, advocating for collaborative endeavours across academia, industry, and policymakers. Ethical considerations emerge as a pivotal focus, encompassing privacy, bias, accountability, inclusivity, and environmental impacts. These considerations underscore the necessity of robust encryption, fair and transparent algorithmic frameworks, and adherence to stringent privacy regulations. The societal impact is examined, emphasizing the potential for digital inclusion and bridging the divide through accessible edge technologies. Security in edge computing takes centre stage, scrutinizing threats, vulnerabilities, and advocating for multifaceted security measures. Future trends such as AI-driven threat detection, block chain integration, and adaptive security measures are envisioned to counter evolving threats. This review paper explores efficient edge computing techniques for data analysis at the network edge, enhancing real-time communication and reducing latency in IoT applications. In this paper, an overview of the key concepts, challenges, and opportunities in the realm of edge computing for IoT networks is presented. Status quo of current research trends and future directions is shown.
