Abstract
Ultrasound and ultrasound chemistry have a considerably long development and application history. They are not only widely used in academia and industry but also used for daily applications, such as fruit cleaning to remove pesticide residues. Considerable efforts have been devoted to developing applications for ultrasound equipment and technology. Thus, many educational institutions have adopted ultrasound and sonochemistry as educational tools for undergraduate and research studies in natural science, which can benefit from the development of these technologies. In this comprehensive review, we discuss ultrasound and sonochemistry, which are widely applied in various disciplines, such as imaging, therapy, daily food processing, material preparation and organic synthesis. Based on the concept of outcome-based education (OBE), ultrasound and sonochemistry will enhance education research and outcomes. In particular, the ultrasonic-assisted synthesis method using inexpensive commercially available ultrasonic equipment is discussed in the context of accelerating students’ education. Among these emerging applications of this method in education and technology, we mainly discuss its development and application in organic synthesis on a global scale.
