Abstract

This paper examines human rights and anti-discrimination legislation under Australian state and territorial law. State and territory anti-discrimination and equal opportunity statutes are outlined with reference to protected attributes and other unlawful conduct, exceptions, complaint handling procedures and remedies for violations of rights. Selective rights protected by state constitutions and the Commonwealth legislation establishing the Australian territories are also considered.
