Global Society Using Translation -- "Tarjim" Initiative's Contribution to Language Services Management

This study examines the impact of Saudi Arabia's "Tarjim" initiative on promoting cultural
exchange, literary enrichment, and language services management. The project’s contributes to
intercultural understanding and knowledge sharing, focusing on four key areas: publishing house
data, growth and development of publishing operations, enhancement of cultural exchange, and
sustainability of sector growth and human resource development.
Concept/Methods

Using a case study approach, the research analyzes Tarjim's objectives, achievements, strategies,
and impact assessment methods. It examines the pre-Tarjim state of Saudi translation,
quantitatively analyzes translation outputs, and qualitatively assesses language service
management and Arabic content enrichment. The study utilizes a survey of publishing houses to
gather data on these four key areas.
Results and Conclusion

Since its establishment in 2021, Tarjim, a government backed translation initiative, has
significantly increased Arabic translations, facilitating 858 book translations from Arabic to other
languages, including 249 Saudi books. The initiative has supported over 1,700 works and engaged
800+ translators from 33 countries. The survey results indicate improvements in publishing
operations, enhanced cultural exchange through increased participation in international book fairs,
and positive impacts on sector growth and workforce development.
Originality/Cognitive value

This research provides novel perspectives on government-led translation initiatives' role in global
cultural exchange. It illustrates Tarjim's impact on economic diversification, international literary
representation, and growth in publishing and translation sectors. The study offers valuable insights
into the relationship between language, literature, and national development strategies.
