Abstract
The synergistic adsorption of carbon dot and chitosan on metal-corrosive solution interface remains complex and elusive due to their distinct architecture and chemistry. For next-generation compound corrosion inhibitor, the molecular structure-activity correlation of them needs to be classified. Here, copper-doped carbon dot (CuCD) and pyridine-grafted chitosan (CS-4PCA) are designed as a synergistic corrosion inhibition duo in 15% HCl. They exhibit mixed-type adsorption to suppress simultaneously cathodic/anodic corrosion reactions. They bridge and form a compact composite film by interleaving of molecular chains and spreading of layers. Our finding opens up a new possibility for developing compound inhibitors in highly corrosive media.
