It explores the historical origins, key characteristics, and influential pioneer films like The Blair Witch Project (1999) and [REC] (2007). The research analyzes the rise of found footage within the horror genre, examining its immersive qualities, unreliable narration, and low-budget production techniques. It also investigates the pioneers' influence on the genre, innovative marketing strategies, and the international appeal of found footage. The paper discusses mainstream acceptance, subgenres, and hybrids, alongside challenges such as overuse and ethical concerns. Furthermore, it explores contemporary trends, including the incorporation of emerging technologies like virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR).
