Abstract

The proliferation of social media platforms has fundamentally transformed the way individuals interact, communicate, and consume information. While these platforms offer unprecedented opportunities for social connectivity, community engagement, and the democratization of information, they also present significant challenges to human health, particularly mental health. This paper provides a comprehensive review of existing literature to explore the multifaceted impact of social media on mental well-being. The analysis delves into how social media usage correlates with mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, loneliness, and reduced self-esteem. Special attention is given to the effects of social comparison, cyberbullying, and the addictive nature of social media, which contribute to psychological distress.
