Preprints with The Lancet is a collaboration between The Lancet Group of journals and SSRN to facilitate the open sharing of preprints for early engagement, community comment, and collaboration. Preprints available here are not Lancet publications or necessarily under review with a Lancet journal. These preprints are early-stage research papers that have not been peer-reviewed. The usual SSRN checks and a Lancet-specific check for appropriateness and transparency have been applied. The findings should not be used for clinical or public health decision-making or presented without highlighting these facts. For more information, please see the FAQs.

More...Abstract
Background: The rise in pharmaceutical use has led to a growing problem of unused and expired medications, which, if disposed of improperly, can harm the environment and public health. Common disposal methods, such as trash disposal and incineration, risk contaminating water sources and releasing pollutants. While countries like Australia, Canada, the UK, and Sweden have established effective disposal programs, India lacks a national framework and public awareness for safe medication disposal. This study seeks to assess healthcare professionals' knowledge, attitudes, and practices on this issue, aiming to improve public awareness and advocate for better disposal practices.
