Abstract

This chapter aims to present an analysis of the gender dimension in Portuguese multicultural jurisprudence. This objective is justified by the relevance of a gender-focused analysis that does not disregard intersections with other identity characteristics and the resulting situations of particular vulnerability that arise from these intersections. Cases were searched where the intersection of the identity “woman” with another identity characteristic (such as nationality, ethnicity or religion) was relevant to the cultural information in the case law analysed. To prepare this chapter, twelve rulings were examined, two from first-instance courts and the remainder from Courts of Appeal.

Keywords: multicultural jurisprudence, Foreign women, women members of ethnic or religious minorities
